History
Technikon was established in 1954 by the late Mr. Harry Haynes in a suburb of Roodepoort called Technikon. From its inception, Technikon Laboratories has performed pharmaceutical contract manufacturing and packing for a variety of South African and multi-national pharmaceutical companies. Over the past 57 years, the company has expanded and relocated several times, and today services the needs of 35 Pharmaceutical clients.
Technikon Laboratories is privately owned and maintains the flexibility to tailor-make services to suit its client’s needs. The Manufacturing, Packing and Distribution facility is approved by the South African Medicines Control Council as well as the South African Pharmacy Council and consists of 110 employees. Technikon offers a wide range of manufacturing services, and operates out of a modern 12 000m² pharmaceutical facility, commissioned in 2007.
The facility has 18 primary and 18 secondary production rooms, each with independent temperature, and pressure gradient control. A 5000m² temperature controlled warehouse caters for the storage of clients starting materials. A progressive sampling booth and dispensary design ensures batch integrity during QA sampling and dispensing.
A 1000m² laboratory houses the company's QC department, as well as ambient and accelerated stability and retention sample storage facilities. Each area has independent temperature and humidity control, with back-up power facilities.
A QA team of 3 pharmacists, 5 BSc graduates and 5 QA technicians ensures that Technikon produces consistently reliable and trustworthy products. A team of 6 skilled technicians ensures that maintenance and preventative maintenance is performed in-house and with the least disruption to the daily functioning of the facility.
A keyless access control system on all applicable entrances and a 24-hour guard service ensures a high level of security, safeguarding inventory items and giving our clients peace of mind.
Technikon maintains close relationships with its clients, more akin to partnership than contractual relationships. Many of our clients have been with us for over 20 years. Our clients include various large multinationals, well-known manufacturers of complementary medicines as well as smaller companies specializing in niche products.
